Bismuth oxide is also known as "bismuth trioxide", pure products are α, β and δ types. α type is yellow monoclinic crystal system, relative density 8.9, melting point 825 ºC, soluble in acid, insoluble in water and alkali. β type is bright yellow to orange, tetragonal crystal system, relative density 8.55, melting point 860 ºC, soluble in acid, insoluble in water. It is easy to be reduced to metal bismuth by hydrogen and hydrocarbons. Delta-bi2o3 is a special material with a cubic fluorite type structure, in which 1/4 of the oxygen ion position is vacant in the lattice, and thus has very high oxygen ion conductivity.
High purity bismuth oxide is used for:
