Lead(II) chloride, also known as "dichloride of lead", has the chemical formula PbCl2 and a molecular weight of 278.10. It is a white orthorhombic crystal and is toxic! Its melting point is 501ºC, boiling point 950ºC, and relative density 5.85.

Lead chloride is a white pigment composed of lead ions (Pb2+) and chloride ions (Cl-). It was discovered in the Sui Dynasty 401 Cave of the Mogao Caves that it was mixed with lead sulfate to form a white pigment; in the Tang Dynasty 321 Cave of the Mogao Caves, some of the white color was composed of talc, mica, calcite, lead chloride and white pyrite. The use of lead chloride as a white pigment is not very common. Over the long course of history, it has only been found in a few places.
