Sodium tripolyphosphate, also known as pentasodium phosphate, sodium pyrometaphosphate, STPP, pentasodium tripolyphosphate. White powder crystal, good fluidity, relative molecular weight 367.86, melting point 622ºC, easily soluble in water, its aqueous solution is alkaline. Commonly used in food, as water retention agent, quality improver, pH regulator, metal chelating agent.
Sodium tripolyphosphates are used in detergents, as additives, soap synergists and prevent bar soap crystallization and frosting, industrial water softener, tannery pre-tanning agent, dyeing agent, oil well mud control agent, paper oil pollution prevention agent, paint, kaolin, magnesium oxide, calcium carbonate and other suspension treatment effective dispersant. Edible grade sodium tripolyphosphate can be used as a food modifier for various fish products and a clarifying agent for beverages.
Sodium tripolyphosphate is a detergent additive with excellent performance, and it is also the largest component in the production process of detergent. Its role has four aspects:
1, chelation of heavy metal ions: in the washing process, the heavy metal ions in the water can be combined with detergent molecules into insoluble metal salts, so that the washing ability is reduced, or even completely lost. Therefore, it is necessary to add chelating agents to the detergent that can make the heavy metal ions contained in the water become harmless substances. Sodium tripolyphosphate has a strong chelating effect on heavy metal ions, which can seal them up and eliminate their adverse effects on washing. In addition, it can also capture the various metal components contained in the dirt, play a role in the cleaning process to dissociate the dirt, can be used as a soap synergist and prevent the bar soap grease precipitation and frosting.
2, the effect of ungelling, emulsification and dispersion of dirt: dirt often contains human secretions (mainly protein and fatty substances), but also contains sand and dust from the outside world. Sodium tripolyphosphate can expand and solubilize the protein in the dirt, thus playing a degumming effect. It can promote emulsification of fat. Dispersion of solid dirt; It has a strong emulsification effect on lubricating oil and fat, and can be used to adjust the PH value of buffer soap liquid.
3, the detergent has the effect of preventing caking: powdered synthetic detergent has hygroscopic property, such as stored in a place with high humidity, caking will occur. Caked detergents are extremely inconvenient to use. The hexahydrate formed by sodium tripolyphosphate after absorbing water has the characteristics of dry. When there is a large amount of use in the detergent formula, it can prevent the caking phenomenon caused by moisture absorption and maintain the dry and granular shape of the synthetic detergent.
4, it has a large alkaline buffer effect, so that the pH value of the washing solution is maintained at about 9.4, which is conducive to the removal of acidic dirt.
