Ascorbic acid glucoside is also known as VC glucoside, with the scientific name O-a-D-pyran-type glucosyl-L-ascorbic acid (2-O-a-D-glucopyranosyl-L-ascorbic acid, abbreviated as AA-2G). It is a derivative of VC and has a relative molecular mass of 338.27. Its melting point is 158.5 - 159.5ºC. Due to the shortcomings of VC such as poor stability and easy oxidation, a substitute product of VC, ascorbic acid glucoside, has been derived. It can replace VC as an acidulant, reducing agent, antioxidant, bleaching agent and stabilizer, and is widely used in cosmetics, food and other fields.

Ascorbyl glucoside is one of the whitening additives recognized by the Health Department. It is widely regarded as the most stable derivative of vitamin C. It is also the most commonly used whitening ingredient by various brands. For instance, L'Oréal has combined the C-glycoside derivative with other components to be used for preventing or treating signs of skin aging on the body or face. Ascorbyl glucoside not only has a good whitening effect but also has stable chemical properties and is non-irritating to the skin.
