Fenlite is mainly used as a flux in aluminum electrolysis; it is also used as a wear-resistant additive for grinding products, which can effectively enhance the wear resistance, cutting and grinding force of grinding wheels, extend the service life and storage time of grinding wheels; it is a flux for ferroalloys and boiling steel, a flux for non-ferrous metals, a deoxidizer for casting, a catalyst for olefin polymerization, and is used in anti-reflection coatings for glass, emulsifiers for enamel, opacifiers for glass, fluxes for welding materials, fillers for ceramics industry, and insecticides for pesticides.

Cryolite is a mineral, sodium hexafluoroaluminate (Na3AlF6), belonging to the white monoclinic crystal system. It is slightly soluble in water and can dissolve in alumina-based substances. In the aluminum electrolysis industry, it is used as a fluxing agent, and it is also used as a shading agent in the production of milky white glass and enamel. It often appears grayish-white, pale yellow, pale red or black due to impurities. It is usually in an inseparable dense block form and has a glassy luster. It is slightly soluble in water and the aqueous solution is acidic.
