Chemical properties

White powder or block. Relative density 2.534. Melting point 1109ºC. Soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol. The aqueous solution is alkaline. The solubility in 100g of water at 25ºC is 187g. The pH of a 1% aqueous solution is 10.2. Potassium pyrophosphate has all the properties of other condensed phosphate salts.

Uses

Mainly used for cyanide-free electroplating,  as the complexing agent for electroplating. Also used as a pretreatment agent for electroplating and a component of pyrophosphate electroplating solution. It is used to prepare detergent components for fabrics, metal surface cleaning agents and bottle cleaning agents, and additives for various cleaners. It is used as a clay dispersant in the ceramic industry, a dispersant and buffer for pigments and dyes. In the bleaching and dyeing industry, it is used to remove a small amount of trivalent iron ions in water to improve the bleaching quality.
