Sodium silicate, commonly known as water glass, is a water-soluble silicate. Its aqueous solution is called water glass and is a mineral adhesive. Its chemical formula is R2O·nSiO2, where R2O represents the oxide of an alkali metal, and n is the ratio of the molar number of silicon dioxide to that of the alkali metal oxide, which is called the modulus of water glass. The commonly used water glass in construction is the aqueous solution of sodium silicate (Na2O·nSiO2).
Instant powdered sodium silicate is also known as instant sodium silicate or hydrated sodium silicate. This product has a white appearance, is in powder form and has good uniformity. The molecular formula of instant powdered sodium silicate is Na2O·mSiO2·nH2O, and its molecular weight is generally between 280 and 350. Compared with anhydrous powder sodium silicate crushed by mechanical means, the former has many valuable properties, such as water solubility rate and purity.
